Step 1 Once you have your system picked out and at the home, the first step is planning out your setup. This comes before unpacking your speakers and moving furniture. Sit down and evaluate your available space in order to chart out a plan for your new system.
Step 2 A large part of the location of the system will ultimately be the location of the power outlets. If youre afforded the ability, try to choose a room that is powered by one individual circuit breaker. This will work to reduce damage risks associated with power overloads. Use power strips as a way to supplement a limited number of outlet choices.
Step 3 The television will obviously be the focal point and center piece. As such, this will be the first item you put into place. You should choose a spot where the screen can be seen straight on. Try to make it so the screen is aligned directly with the eyes of the viewer. Having a screen that is too high or low can make viewing difficult.
Step 4 Next, find a place for your speakers. You will not need to hook them up just yet. Try to make them as symmetrical as possible.
Step 5 Your center channel speaker should be placed directly above or below the television.
Step 6 Place your front right and left speakers on either side of the television at equal distances from the center. Ideally, your front side speakers should match the height of your central speaker.
Step 7 Add your surround speakers to the equation, at equal distances as well. Point these speakers toward the ceiling or at the back of the room for the best results. Avoid directing them to your viewing position.
Step 8 Your subwoofer should be situated at the side of the room, roughly halfway between the television and the optimal viewing position. The bass reaction can be adjusted by moving the subwoofer closer or further away from the wall. Play around with the positioning until you are satisfied.
Step 9 Now its time to connect your speakers. This should be done by running flat cables along the lower portion of your walls or the length of the baseboard.
Step 10 Before turning anything on, be sure to consult your user's manual. Every system is different and thus, will require different precautions and settings to obtain optimal results.
Step 11 When in doubt, simply call up the store where the system was purchased. Most places will be able to trouble shoot with you over the phone and help ensure that everything is hooked up and running properly.
