Here are some dining room decorating ideas that also double up as kitchen decorating ideas to bring style in your dining room and kitchen that will make them the best rooms in the home for sitting down with a piece of pie or entertaining with friends.

Dining room decorating ideas would begin with the choice of the focal area of all dining rooms, the dining table. While choosing a dining table for modest spaces, a glass table works well as it creates a sense of space and depth, while wooden tables in rich tones complement larger spaces or vintage/traditional décor. If you would like a wooden table with your decorating style but do not have the space, a drop-leaf table would be a versatile option. A buffet can accentuate your dining room’s style and theme. It serves both as a decorative piece and storage for extra dishes, silverware, linen and accessories. You could also place flowers or crystal figurines on your buffet.

Here are some practical vintage kitchen decorating ideas for modest spaces. If you have a pantry space that leads to the dining space, you might consider using a multipurpose cabinet much like a Hoosier cabinet. Popular in the early 1900s, it had multiple drawers with convenient open shelving for storing spices and kitchen equipment. Often, it also had a piece of wood or porcelain that pulled out to provide additional counter space in the kitchen or dining room area. For storage in a vintage kitchen, use clear canning jars and stacked wire or wicker baskets.

The pantry is a functional space that is often overlooked while redecorating. Make a striking display of silverware or blues and whites on your pantry walls. You can also add personality to your pantry by painting the wall facing the dining area in a bold color like fuchsia, lime or a classic deep blue and display gold-rimmed china or silver serving platters. The medley of shapes and the contrasting colors will wow your guests every time the service door opens and they are offered a peek.
