The most initial and early form of the locks were the Warded locks, assumed to have been urbanized in China. Warded lock is among the most basic types of lock.

Another form of the locks is the Tumbler Lock. However, Tumbler locks may be divided into two quite distinctive forms.

Pin tumbler lock and the Wafer tumbler lock.

Pin tumbler lock is enormously well-known and extensively in use throughout the western part of the globe. They have been in use in several shape and appearance since as long as 2000 BCE. The aged shape of the Pin tumbler lock was big, weighty, and was prepared from wood. The contemporary figure of the lock was initially originated in the year 1805 in the country England. The copyrights were reserved by an American called A.O. Stansbury. In the midst of the 18th Century the lock was polished to its present form by Linus Yale Sr., an American locksmith and his son, Linus Yale Jr.

Wafer tumbler lock is the second form of the Tumbler lock. The copyright for the first form of the wafer lock was presented to P.S. Felter in 1868 in the United States. The lock is comparatively cheap to construct and frequently employed in vehicles and cabinets.
Another type includes the Lever locks. Lever locks were first invented in the 17th Century in Europe. These are well admired locks for the use in North American jails and safes, because of their strong and burly built. Often they are employed as gate manes in a few countries. Lever locks were the ones that restored the traditional warded lock of the 19th century.

Moreover, another significant form includes the Abloy, also known as the disk tumbler lock. It was first developed in 1907, and is largely in use in Finland. The lock is a robust type with no attached springs. Therefore picking the lock is very difficult in contrast to other substitute ways of achieving access.

There are also numerous other forms of locks, including the dimple lock and the tubular lock, which distinguish from each other in terms of security and variety.
