Watch out!
This is the season to be jolly. But to many people that means throwing their common sense out the car window as they're following the frenzied mob to the mall for another round of intoxicating spending. Don't get caught up in it. It's manipulation to the max.
Am I Mr. Scrooge?
You should have a nice Christmas. I'm not saying you shouldn't. But it was never meant to be the season where we show our love for each other by being buried in life-crushing debt.
So what's the solution?
Here are some solutions to enjoy this holiday season while having a Debt-Free Christmas:
1. The best way is to give to to others the gift of yourself. Spend some quality time with a loved one each evening. List ways you can give of your time and hand out coupons to othes such as "date night out" with your spouse or "a special evening with Mom or Dad" for your son or daughter.
2. Of course, shop the sales and use coupons, but don't use your credit card. Instead use a debit card. That way, you won't be tempted to carry a neverending balance.
3. Give framed pictures of yourself of family members to other relatives. This can be a relatively inexpensive gift, but something that your relatives will treasure for years to come.
4. Set up a budget and stick to it. It doesn't matter how much Aunt Jean or Uncle Bob spend. What matters is your financial health while trying to give others the best gift possible.
Just be aware what's at stake.
I know you're creative enough to put together a wonderful Christmas for your loved ones without being buried in a mountain of debt. With all of the stores decked out in holiday lights and "deck the halls" being played in the background, let me tell you this one little secret:
Yes, they're after your money!
If you keep your head in the game, you should be able to have a debt-free Christmas, while giving your friends and family a nice holiday.
And by the way, don't forget whose birthday it is.
