In cognitive therapy, one of the first exercises a patient is taught is to stand in front of the mirror and face his/ her fears. And the first thing a patient accepts upon introspecting is that it’s not easy to admit ones own emotions to oneself at times.

Imagine having to broach a conversation with a whole other person! Anonymous email messaging actually helps make this easier for people otherwise unable to speak their mind as openly.

For example, people find it difficult to discuss the matters of their heart and personally traumatic experiences with others. There is a human tendency to push back a bad experience in the back of one’s mind. However, a bad experience, an unreciprocated love and an unresolved problem does not end its influence on the person just by being pushed down the drain. It tends to crop up again and again at the slightest hint. The way to resolution of sensitive subjects is actually communication of the problem areas and may be even discussing it, if it is possible. However, the same is not feasible with many without an assurance that they would stay anonymous.

Writing down feelings and emotions tends to have a cathartic effect and can also be a medium for better expressions. In a sense, anonymous email messaging can be a therapeutic experience.

And so in today’s fast-paced, wireless world, where nobody supposedly has time to deal with emotions, people have found a vent in the form of anonymous e-mailer. While there may be many taking a critical view on the same, anything’s worth a shot when it is one’s emotions under spotlight.

There is no denying the fact that anonymous e-mailer may be misused. But the truth of the matter is that there may be some one out there trying to reach out, may be for help; and perhaps it is the best or even the only way suitable for him/ her to express.
