Cosmetic dentists are getting more and more in demand these days mainly due to the pressing need for many people to appear aesthetically pleasing to themselves and others.

There are many different procedures that dentists of this field may do for their patients. There are not many dangers in the procedures and basically these methods help to promote self esteem and confidence in an individual.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a dental procedure that entails using materials to improve the whiteness of a person's teeth. Although there are many over the counter ways of bleaching these body parts, dentists are often consulted with regards to ways and means of improving the color. The effect of doctor supervised whitening may last for several months. How long the results last is actually dependent on the person's lifestyle and diet.

Factors that contribute to discoloration are ingestion of dark colored liquids, smoking, vitamins, medications and many others. This procedure is a probably the most common for cosmetic dentists. The addition of veneers may also be applicable for this situation if other options do not work.

Tooth Reshaping

Contouring, as this method is also called, is used to improve the overall physical appearance of the person's tooth. Common problems such as crooked teeth, overlapping, cracks and chips on the teeth can be remedied with this procedure. The enamel itself is reduced or added unto to improve one's pearly whites. Intensive reshaping can happen with just one long dental session or sessions can be several.

White Fillings Help

A few decades ago, a tooth with a hole was usually filled with a silver material. These days the use of this silver material is now almost obsolete because it contains mercury which can be a poison. White fillings are now used to cover up the holes and these are not only safe but they also meld well with the white enamel. It is not only cosmetic dentists who use this light colored filling to fill up the holes but even ordinary dentists.

The hole in the tooth is cleaned and then the filling is placed inside up to the top of it. The dentist will then contour the still pliable filling to a shape that goes with the opposing tooth. A special light is used to harden the filling and further reshaping may be necessary when the filling has hardened for a comfortable bite.
