But looking back at the old, early-80s-yellow plastic patio furniture, you wonder, "Did I like this when I bought it?" the formica table has a crack in the top near the umbrella hole that's you actually remember happening, four years ago now, when Uncle Marty tried to use the table as an oration stand. It's been so long now, that there's dirt in the crack that won't come off. The woven plastic chairs sag, and the metal spring joints are rusty and squeak when you sit in them. It actually looks really bad next to the rest of your fresh, green garden and healthy, flowering trees.
Looking at the patio set, you think, "You know, I should just dump this junk in the trash." It's something you've said to yourself for about 5 years now, ever since your sister came over and pointed out how the table is nearly beige on the top but goldenrod around the edges. "This year" you tell yourself, "This year I'll finally do it!" and you don't even set up the umbrella this year. You call the garbage service and let them know there'll be large items to pick up this week, and you set it out on the front lawn with a sign, "Free or Trash" taped on the side.
It stays until the trash guy comes on Thursday.
Now, however, you're stuck without any patio furniture. Not sure of what you're looking for, you search online for new styles and ideas. What's out there now? All the patio furniture out there now looks so nice, so modern! You think, "Hm, maybe not glass. Uncle Marty will want to stand on it, I'm sure," but there are plenty of attractive options. "I like the ones with the coal burning fire pit in the middle of the table," you muse to yourself about being unable to stand in fire, "The matching chairs are made with UV protected and weather resistant faux-wicker. I suppose real wicker would rot in the rain..." It looks comfortable. Like you could invite people over and they wouldn't flinch to sit in the chair or absent-mindedly try to dust the table off before putting a plate down or resting their elbows on it. You know what you want, but you wait. "Maybe they have it at the local hardware store?" you think to yourself. Being especially proactive today, you get into your car and drive down there.
When you get there, you find that they have a lot of things, but not exactly the one you fell in love with online. Disappointed, you drive back home. You also realize that your small, fuel-efficient vehicle wouldn't really be able to haul all that stuff home today anyway.
So, back at home, you go back to your computer and wake it up with a good mouse jiggle. The browser is still open to the patio set of your dreams! You take the plunge, and order it.
Two weeks later, your perfect patio set arrives. They called before they delivered, so you could be home to receive it. All set up, the patio set looks beautiful! Framed beside your trees and your perennials...
But then you remember, you have to clean the INSIDE of the house, too!
