Board Certification

A board certified plastic surgeon has the education, training and experience necessary for a successful surgery. One of the first things you should do is find out if your plastic surgeon is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is the only board that certifies plastic surgeons in all plastic surgical procedures.

Temperament

Getting along with your plastic surgeon may seem like a given, but it is an important indicator in how they treat their patients. You will be spending a lot of time with the doctor and staff during your initial consultation through the surgery and into follow-up appointments. You should be able to ask all the questions you have and voice your concerns. You should also listen to the doctor, even if it is something you may not want to hear. It is important to remember that your plastic surgeon has your safety in mind first and foremost.

Facility

The physical practice itself should be in a hospital or other office that meets the requirements of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambualtory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF). This ensures that the facility has the highest standards of safety, medication, personnel, and more.
