Set aside some time to gather information about cosmetic dentists in your area and to make detailed comparisons. Don’t rush through this step. Your choice can make the difference between satisfaction and disappointment. Cosmetic dentistry is permanent.
Licensure
Naturally you want to make sure your cosmetic dentist is licensed. But you also want to make sure he is in good standing with the licensing board in your state. Contact your state licensing agency to be sure his license is not under review, has never been suspended, and that he has no history of lawsuits, or any claims pending at present.
Education, Training and Experience
Next you want to know that he has the education and experience necessary to do the work you need correctly. Find out where he studied both dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. One of the most prestigious cosmetic dentistry schools is Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). If the cosmetic dentist you are researching completed training here, there’s an excellent likelihood that you will be in good hand.
Professional Affiliations
But don’t stop there. Find out what associations and organizations your prospective cosmetic dentist belongs to, and whether he is in good standing. Professional organizations such as the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) offer accreditation. Accreditation requires testing to ensure that the applicant dentist meets established professional cosmetic dentistry standards and guidelines.
Experience
Look for evidence that this dentist has sufficient experience in the procedures that you will have done. He may offer photos online or at his office of patients showing before and after images of his work. He may offer testimonies from actual cosmetic dentistry patients.
Cosmetic dentistry should be the main focus of his practice. Find out how many procedures your prospective cosmetic dentist has done of the type you are having done. The more experience he has had, the better developed his skills will be.
Affordability - Financing
The days of leaving cosmetic dentistry to the elite few are in the past now that there are so many financing options available. Some cosmetic dentists offer discounts for cash payment. Most will accept credit cards. There are two financers that offer dental care financing: Care Credit and Chase health Advance.
