•Gold - For ages yellow gold has always been the most preferred metal for diamond rings. Of all the metals gold is the most malleable metal and hence it is combined with silver or copper. On the other hand white gold is alloyed gold mixed with silver, palladium or nickel. Most of the engagement rings and diamond rings are set in 18k, 14k or 10k gold. Gold gives a very traditional look to the diamond ring and is much more affordable than other expensive metal. Though the pliable nature of the gold makes it less resistant to scratch and dent. White gold cold contains mainly nickel and many people are allergic towards nickel.
•Platinum - Centuries back Louis the XV of France declared platinum to be the only metal absolutely fit for the royalty. Hence, it’s needless to say that till date it is one of the most expensive metals for engagement rings. It is a strong durable metal and highly resistant to tarnish and scratches. The beauty of this white metal further accentuates the exquisiteness of a diamond ring.
•Palladium - It is a new entrant in the jewellery industry and belongs from the platinum family. Its family lineage helps it to outshine other white metal available and its also much cheaper therefore can suit all pockets. It is a hypoallergenic metal therefore suits all as opposed to the white gold which contains nickel.
•Silver – This metal comes in two forms, one is sterling silver and the other is silver plated. Silver jewellery is very common these days and highly appreciated as well. Sterling silver is made of 92.5 percent of pure silver and 7.5 percent of other metals like copper, zinc, germanium and platinum. Sterling silver is very cheap as compared to any other white metal available in the market and at the same time enhances the splendor of a diamond ring. As this metal is of pliable nature it wears over the period of time. Therefore women involved in heavy activities should likely avoid this metal for their engagement rings.
One should wisely choose the metal for their engagement ring as it is a lifetime investment.
