The intent of the health care reform acts is to make medical services more accessible to all American citizens. However, with these proposed changes, there are many expensive burdens that are being placed on health insurance Georgia companies.

Because of the changes proposed in the health care reform acts, many health insurance Georgia companies are making changes to the products they offer. Some of these are not pleasing current consumers of health insurance Georgia policies. One big change is that many health insurance Georgia companies are no longer offering Child Only policies. In the past, some people have gotten their health insurance Georgia benefits through their employer-sponsored group health plan. Some individuals then chose to purchase a Child Only policy for their children, rather than add them to their group health plan. This was probably done because purchasing an individual policy is cheaper than adding a family member to a group health insurance Georgia plan.

However, because health insurance Georgia companies are now prohibited from using prior medical history or current health condition as a determining factor for approval or premium costs, many health insurance Georgia companies are finding it cost prohibitive to offer Child Only policies. Therefore, families will now not have the option of purchasing these separate individual policies, and will have to just add children on to family group health insurance Georgia policies. And as mentioned before, group health insurance Georgia plan premiums are always higher than individual plan premiums. Therefore, this is a big disadvantage for individuals.

They, in turn, are finding no other options except to eliminate some products, or to increase some premiums, in order to pay for the new plan and programs that are required by the proposed reform changes. Although over time, things will probably balance out better, right now, many people are panicking about the additional expenses, both individually and at a corporate level.

A related change is that qualifying children will be covered until an older age than in the past. On one hand, this is an added benefit for families whose children will be able to continue to be enrolled in their health insurance Georgia plans until up to age 26. However, this results in added costs and risks to the health insurance Georgia company, and those costs will probably trickle down and result in higher premiums for all members of a health insurance plan.

Health insurance Georgia companies are looking at ways to implement programs to adhere to all of the new rules and regulations imposed by the health care reform, in order that they do not result in higher premiums. Health insurance Georgia companies are committed to making medical and health care services available and affordable and accessible to more and more American citizens. In fact, many health insurance Georgia companies, through their national trade association, have been working and proposing changes to the health insurance industry for over three years. Now, they are working to comply with the federal government’s regulation. It is confusing, however, because some regulations are at the federal level, and some other requirements are at the state level. Yet, not all the states are on board with the federal reform proposal.

Stay tuned to see how health care reform affects your particular health insurance Georgia plan.
