The first aspect of contemporary holiday décor is playing with the color scheme. Use vibrant apple green, rich cocoa brown, turquoise blue, coral pink and pearly white for a different take on the usual holiday color scheme. A combination of teal blue and cocoa brown remain trendy colors for this holiday season. Create a color grouping by taking all of your winter décor pieces in one particular color, arrange in a unique grouping design and use a charming glass cloche to display them.
Use gifts from the garden for some beautiful nature-inspired DIY modern holiday décor. Create retro holiday flower arrangements by giving a gilded finish to found treasures from those autumn nature walks. You can also use dried twigs spray-painted in white or silver from any pruning project to make a twig topiary for the tabletop. Fashion a simple garland using seed heads from grasses, lavender stems, and the dried flowers of some hydrangeas mixed well with spray-painted milkweed pod flowers. Glue twigs to mirrors and picture frames, and add shine to buffet tops with beaded velvet runners and glittering snow globes.
You can magnify all that sparkles and shines by reflecting it in wall mirrors. Mirrors can make for great décor accessories because they can add depth and dimension to a space. A wreath hung over a wall mirror on your mantel can give a creative touch to your décor. Use wall mirrors in a unique way by laying them flat against your tabletop and creating your holiday centerpiece on them. Have a few votive candle cups in the centerpiece to give your Christmas table a distinct look and add to the glow. Apart from wall mirrors, mirrored ornaments can truly make your holiday tree shimmer with festive cheer. To create a subtle shine, use mercury glass ornaments and accessories such as candleholders; these go wonderfully well with contemporary decorating styles.
