Different Types of Contact Lenses
Used to cure or minimize vision problems as well as for cosmetic reasons, contacts are mainly of two types: soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses.
• Soft contact lenses are more comfortable to wear and take less time to get used to. However, these are delicate and harder to care for and maintain. Soft lenses last for a shorter duration and are more expensive, but also more convenient. These cure a number of vision problems.
• RPG or gas permeable lenses are easier to maintain and last longer. These are used to cure a great number of vision problems. It’s best to remove your gas permeable contacts every night before you go to sleep.
Contact Lens Care
Taking regular care of your contacts can keep them free from dust and infection causing microorganisms. Here are a few tips for taking care of your lenses:
• If your eyes feel itchy, immediately remove and wash the lenses. Wash your eyes with clean water too. If your soft lenses tear, or your gas permeable lenses crack, remove the lenses immediately to bring instant relief to your eyes.
• If a foreign body settles on your contact lenses, remove the lenses and clean away the foreign body with a clean tissue and then rinse the lens with a cleaning solution.
• Only water is not adequate to clean your contacts and keep them germ-free. You can use saline solutions for rinsing. Multipurpose solutions are the best and the most convenient. Such multi-purpose single solutions do the trick of cleaning, storing, rinsing, and keeping the lens germ-free.
