What Credit Repair Companies do that you can to …
Here's what credit repair companies claim they can do -- and you can too
The first thing is to get your credit report. You could be among the 25 percent of U.S. consumers denied credit this year due to inaccurate information..
Stop applying for credit cards or loans of any type until you've had a chance to access and review your credit report. Chances are if one company rejected your application, others will follow suit. And every time you submit a credit application, it appears on your credit report.
Too many declined applications can look negative, because lenders consider the number of credit applications to be an indicator of how much credit you're trying to obtain, and can conclude that you'll be an irresponsible user of credit if they see too many inquiries.
Remove incorrect information from your credit file. You can do that yourself under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This means you have a right to challenge the information in writing and have it corrected.
One credit repair clinic tactic is to challenge every item in a credit file -- negative, positive, or neutral -- with the hope of overwhelming the credit bureau into removing information without verifying it. However, credit bureaus often dismiss these challenges on the ground that they are frivolous, a right that credit bureaus have under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You are better off getting your file and selectively challenging the items that are incomplete or inaccurate.
There is information and books on what you need to do to repair your credit.Depending on your issues,it might be time to consult with a lawyer.
