Tesco reap success with their mobile phone contract sales.

Supermarkets sell everything these days including garden furniture, car insurance, flowers, computer games, electronic equipment, and toys. Many supermarkets also sell pay as you go mobile phones with some also venturing in to the contract mobile phone market.

Tesco is one such supermarket, and the contract mobile phones have been flying out the door. Tesco are selling approximately 1,000 contracts per month and are starting to establish themselves as a major player in the mobile market. There is speculation that Tesco are ahead of their target set for the end of the year.

Tesco have opened several stand alone telecoms centres around the UK including Bursledon, Hatfield, Newport, Purley, Romford, Solihull, Sutton, Talbott Green, Watford and Wigan. Stand alone telecom centres are expected to appear in all of Tesco’s large ‘Extra’ stores.

1,000 contracts per month are not going to have the likes of Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U quaking in their boots but this level of connections comes close to medium sized chains such as Fonehouse and JAG.

Once the standalone telecom centres are up and running in the Extra stores Tesco really could start hurting other retailers. Following in Tesco’s footsteps Asda are understood to be launching their own contract scheme this year.
