Mobile internet browsing is becoming a free extra on many tariffs, but who gives the best value for money?

Choosing a tariff to suit your mobile phone usage is imperative to getting a good mobile phone deal. Not enough inclusive minutes and messages and you will get stung for your extra usage, too many minutes and messages and you could be paying more than you need too for your line rental each month.

With internet browsing becoming more popular on mobile phones this is another aspect to look at when choosing your tariff. Vodafone recently revamped their personal tariffs to include unlimited mobile internet and email but are the new tariffs as good as they sound? Let’s compare the Vodafone £35 tariff to the O2 £35 iPhone tariff and the Orange Panther £35 sim only tariff (all 18 month contracts). Vodafone offer 500 anytime cross network minutes and 100 sms plus unlimited mobile internet and email for your £35 line rental per month. O2 £35 iPhone tariff offers 600 anytime cross network minutes and 500 sms plus unlimited mobile internet and data. Orange offer 1000 anytime cross network minutes and 400 sms plus unlimited mobile internet browsing. As you can see O2 and Orange give a lot more value for money, showing that you don’t have to compromise on inclusive minutes and sms, when looking for unlimited data.

Vodafone have also unveiled their new business tariffs aimed at small to medium enterprises. The tariffs dubbed ‘Total Business Plans’ will be launched on the 2nd June 2008, and will replace the currently available Sharetime Plus and Small Business price plans. The new plans will come with individual text bundles with the ability to add mobile internet and email to specific users if needed. There are two sizes of internet and email packs – a standard usage of 500MB and a high usage of 5GB.

I don’t think Vodafone have got the price plans right just yet but hopefully they will revamp them soon making them better value for money, and allowing them to compete better with the other networks.
