The creases and sags tend to make a person look older than they really are. By tightening the skin in the brow and forehead region, a more youthful look can be achieved. This cosmetic procedure can be performed alone or in combination with other facial alterations.
The three types of lifts are called the Coronal, the Hairline and the Endoscopic. There are pros and cons to each of these methods. The type that is most appropriate for each person will depend on several factors. The most appropriate person to determine which procedure should be used is the surgeon, who has extensive expertise and experience.
It is always wise to look at "before and after” photos, as well, in order to get an idea of what results are possible. At the initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your skin’s condition and elasticity, as well as your hairline and head shape, in order to choose the method best for you.
In the Coronal, the incision is made at the hairline from one ear to the other. The excess skin is removed and the remainder is pulled together and reattached by the surgeon. This process tightens the entire area. The muscles in the region are often loosened, as well, in order to help get rid of horizontal lines.
The Hairline method is a popular choice for those with either a receding or very high hairline. With this technique, the incision is made right below the hair growth area. The skin is then pulled tightly upward and reattached. This is a preferable option for someone who wears bangs which will cover the scarring which results.
The Endoscopic process entails using an endoscope which is a small medical camera. In this method, the surgeon will make several small incisions in the scalp area in order to pull the skin backward. Small screws are attached to the skull bone which supports the area until it heals.
The brow lift is usually performed in a hospital and often requires an overnight stay. It will be necessary to use a general anesthetic for total sedation. The operation takes approximately two to three hours to complete.
There will initially be pain and discomfort but it is usually well controlled with prescription or over-the counter pain relievers. There will also be bruising and swelling which should subside within three weeks. After a period of four to six weeks, the healing period will be complete and the patient will have a younger, happier appearing face.
