Brian Gionta One of The Best Hockey Players

Brian Joseph Gionta is now 31 years old and birthday on 18th January. As the professional hockey player and the captain of Montreal Canadiens, Canadiens used to have two American-born captains, Brian Joseph is one of them (the first being Chris Chelios). Gio is his nickname named by teammates, most amazing thing is that he is only one inch higher than the shortest NHL player, actually be the second shortest NHL player. He is known as an indomitable player.

Gionta was first drafted by New Jersey Devils 82nd overall NHL Entry Draft 12 years ago. He attended high school at the Aquinas Institute in Rochester as as a short boy. And then skate for Boston College from 1997 to 2001. In the 2000-2001 season, he help the team win a National Championship as Eagles captain. At that time, Marty Reasoner named his first nickname as "Rochester". He do excellent as a freshman together with Reasoner, 30 goals and 62 points in 40 games and help the Eagles to arrive Boston for National Championship.

In his sophomore year in Boston College, Gionta gained 60 points but terminated by the University of Maine in the Frozen Four semifinals.

He got 54 points in the senior season as a captain, and help BC defeated North Dakota to win the National Championship. Once gained 5 goals against University of Maine.

His brother Stephen also played for Boston College and helped the BC as the top college hockey team in the nation.

He joined 310 games in New Jersey, with 50 playoff games. Once joined the 2002–03 Stanley Cup championship team}.He played for their affiliate the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL), in 2004-2005 lockout. He also joined the 2006 U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey team which was held in Turin, Italy.

As a 5'7" player, Brian Gionta is one of the shortest players currently playing in the NHL, until now he enjoyed great success from the second half of the 2003–2004 season He is known as the most effective and offensive player in Devils at the same time, although people may think short player is hard to achieve that.
Gionta at last signed a 5-year contract for $25 Million with the Montreal Canadiens On July 1, 2009. The former Devils teammate Scott Gomez also played in Montreal Canadiens with him.
