First if you don't have any money (and most newbies don't) to buy a domain name and web hosting for your wordpress blog then you can use some free methods. You can set up a Squidoo lens or set up a blog at Blogger or you can make use of the popular Wordpress. Just remember this that if you use a free platform you do not own the content, they do and they can shut you down at will. So, just follow the rules so you don’t get shut out.

Original content needs to be regularly posted to your blog to help make it good. Unique content is the key to having long term success with your blog. The main reason most blogs don't make it big is poor content. Writing about something that's been done to death may be easier, but you won't be providing any real value to your readers that way.

Here are a few quick tips to get you started:

• Blogging about a particular subject in which you have a passion, either a profession or a hobby, will make it easier.

• When we write we want to sound like a real person. In fact you need to sound like you because your readers want to embrace a personality.

• When telling stories, do it with some enthusiasm. Use metaphors as they can conjure up images - images connect better. Don't be shy, just tell the story as if you were telling it to your best friend.

• Do not copy old posts of a blog on new blog. You can get penalized for duplicate content.

• The look and layout of the blog should be nice, neat and attractive so that it can create a good impression on the visitor and he/she should feel compelled to stay longer and visit again.

• Use pictures, images wherever possible to make your post colorful and attractive.

• Give links to useful resources related to your topic. Also give links to your earlier posts with proper anchor text wherever possible. This improves internal linking of your blog.

• There should not be many outgoing links (pointing to other websites / blogs) in the post or side bar. Remove unnecessary outgoing links. Place all outgoing links near bottom of right hand side bar or footer.
