Bizzarro eBay – Sellers buy things to sell on eBay from local stores, buyers pay more on eBay! |
||||
Christine Frostman spends each morning with a cup of coffee at her computer, casually scanning local ads from her favorite stores, Best Buy, Circuit City and Macy’s. “Oh here’s a good one” she says out load as she circles a pink Nintendo DS gaming system ad from her local electronics store. “These are really hot on eBay” she says with a smile.
Like hundreds of sellers on eBay, Christine has discovered a strange pattern among eBay’s millions of users, they will often pay more to buy a product online then they would from their local store. Sellers have been quietly cashing in on this phenomenon and finding hundred of things to sell on ebay right from their local stores or online retailers. Several websites have been setup to help sellers find things to sell on eBay, htttp://www.whattosell.com and http://www.thingstosellonebay.com are good examples.
Why do buyers pay more for products on eBay then they would from their local stores? There are several reasons, most notably, laziness. When the average shopper gets on eBay, they automatically think they are getting the best price for whatever item they are buying. A second reason is the “bidding war effect”. Many times buyers get into bidding wars and end up paying more for an item then they should. The human competitive spirit takes over and eBay buyers are turned into zombies, sitting at their screen trying to outbid each other on a piece of junk that could be bought down the street for the same price or less. Just look at gift cards on eBay as an example. Often you can find $100 gift cards selling for more then $100 plus shipping. BIZZARRO!
