The stock broker works on behalf of his clients. These clients are the investors and the stockbroker makes his profit in the purchase and sale of stocks and shares or other instruments. The clients could also be individuals or institutions.
In order to become a stockbroker one must first of all hold a minimum B in GCSE level Math, high A level grades and a decent undergrad degree. However, this degree should preferably be a degree in economics, finance or investment management in order to have an edge for entry into the bigger firms. In order to work as a stockbroker in the UK you must complete one of the Financial Services Association (FSA) qualifications and examinations. Subsequently, you must achieve FSA Approved Person Status. This status is attained from the firm that one works for, confirms that one can work unsupervised.
A stockbroker’s services can be in three ways. Firstly, he may operate under the instructions of his client in the sale and purchase of instruments. He can also be an advisor wherein he leaves the ultimate decision with the client. In the discretionary dealing the stockbroker retains both the assessments and final deals based on the client’s objectives. Stockbroker jobs in all the three kinds are concentrated in a stock exchange though the Internet is also an option these days.
