Babymoon: Memories in the Making |
||||
|
A babymoon, or a pre-baby vacation, is becoming common among expectant parents. It is meant to put some focus on the relationship while a couple spends some time just relaxing in preparation for the new arrival. |

One great way to focus on this momentous occasion is to book a pregnancy massage. Make sure that you check the therapist’s credentials ahead of time to ensure that he/she is trained in the technique. To add to the experience and to make it last a life time, choose a couple’s aroma-therapy massage. Ask the therapist a common and distinct scent such as lavender, ginger, or citrus or bring your own scented oils or lotions. Your sense of smell is known for triggering memories and for years to come the scent you choose will bring you back to the excitement and hopefulness of the days before you delivered your child.
If you are close to delivery, have your toenails done in tribute baby blue or pink, or if you do not know if you are having a baby boy or a baby girl, ask everyone that you encounter to guess. Keep a tally of guesses to record in the baby book or scrapbook. You might consider buying a souvenir that will go well in the nursery, or you might try using this special time to shop for and choose a “going home” outfit or a christening gown.
If you have not already chosen a name, consider waiting for the babymoon for the final decision. Have a nice dinner by candle light or take a long walk on the beach, clear your minds and name your child. Who knows how you will be inspired? The sights, sounds and smells of your surroundings may conjure creativity and trigger memories of a time or a person that you would like to honor in naming your baby, or if you are on the quirkier side, some lucky waiter may soon have a namesake.
Consider a destination that is easily accessible, and start the tradition of visiting upon the heels of every new arrival in your growing family. Or, choose a place that can be easily converted into a family expedition, and plan to visit with your child when she is old enough to make her own memories. Take pictures at land marks with baby on board, and return in a few years for a nice family portrait. Any activity that when recounted in years to come will create nostalgia is a perfect activity for a babymoon.
