Excessive sweating can leave large embarrassing wet rings under armpits, surely not a desirable fashion statement. What's a person to do? Not only does one have the drippy, unappealing wetness to contend to, but what about the odor? Another fashion and social "don't".
Sweating seems more prevalent in the summer because it is the body's natural cooling mechanism for responding to the summer's seasonal temperature increase. Other causes which are not seasonally related include heavy bouts of exercise, stress, anxiety and illness.
For years, different approaches have been tried to control this issue in the form of creams, lotions, and other antiperspirant variations. Sometimes these will work for a while, then the body adapts to it and WHAM! There are those armpit rings again. Also, some of the ingredients in the strongest of antiperspirants can have adverse reactions such as allergic reactions or even as a link to Alzheimer's disease.
Luckily, a new use has been found for the already much lauded miracle discovery of dermal fillers like Botox, Restylane and Juvederm made famous for easing facial wrinkles. They have also been recently found to be the answer to handling the sticky problem of severely sweaty armpits and right in time for the summer season.
The medical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis. Though it is often deemed a cosmetic issue, it is also a medical issue. Hyperhidrosis can cause dehydration and skin rashes. If a body is not properly hydrated, it is more susceptible to disease because a proper amount of hydration is necessary in order to support an adequately functioning immune system.
Medical insurance often covers procedures which correct hyperhidrosis, but you must check with your carrier to be sure. They will usually want a letter of diagnostic substantiation from your physician in order to issue an approval for treatment coverage.
Dermal fillers are injectables. Your physician will insert it into your armpit area through a tiny needle. The drying effects of this treatment will usually last from four to six months or sometimes even longer. It is usually injected one to three times per year, as needed. Responses will vary as everybody is different.
