The earliest examples of the civilized society in India were found at Mehrgarh as about 7000 BC that developed into the Indus valley civilization at about 3300 BC. The Vedic civilization has influenced India to this day. The roots of present-day Hinduism lie in them. Some rituals of Hinduism took shaped during that period are even practiced. Most of the North Indian languages has their roots in Sanskrit, the language of Vedas and is meant as a part of Indo-European group of languages. Many great empires were found between 500 BC and AD 500. Islamic invasion started in about in the 8th century as in the form of raids. Soon entire India came under the dominance of Muslim rules. Mughals were the most important of the Muslim rulers. European traders started visiting India in search of the greener pastures. And by the 19th century, the British East India Company got the political control of entire India. There was a revolt against the company in 1857, after, the suppression, the British government came in front to become the rulers of India. However, non violent resistance to British colonialism under Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi led to independence of India on 15 August 1947. But this Independence came at the cost of partition, where, the country was divided into two independent countries, India and Pakistan.
