There are many different styles of mountainboards, all varying in deck size and style, bindings (some may be metal, some velcro, some strap you in like a snowboard), wheel size and style, and truck style (bushings vs shocks).
Generally, smaller and lighter boards with smaller tires are better for freestyle riders and land kiteboarders. The bigger, heavier boards with bigger tires are better for freeriders. The middle sized boards are all around boards. Also, bigger riders will need bigger boards, and smaller riders will need smaller boards.
Most mountainboards have four wheels, but there are some boards that only have two, and there are even some that have three wheels.
The best part about mountainboarding is the freedom to board anywhere.
You don't have to wait for snow like in snowboarding, and you can't just do it on cement like in skateboarding. With a mountainboard you can board down paved roads, dirt roads, gravel roads, trails, grass hills, pretty much anywhere (science still applies however). The world is one giant mountainboard park, with unlimited mountainboarding possibilities.
