An Age Old Dilemma: Older Teeth

Most everything yellows with age, but that doesn’t have to be the case with your smile. Teeth whitening can make you look years younger by brightening up your entire face and renewing lost confidence in your looks.

You look in the mirror and notice a few more wrinkles, thinning hair and then just as quick, you grab your toothbrush, open wide and what do you see, but dingy, gray teeth that add insult to the injury of aging. Fortunately, you can turn back the clock with cosmetic dentistry.

As we age, those years of drinking coffee, tea, red wine and colas catch up to us. Combine that with the natural thinning of the tooth enamel and we face a gray smile each morning and throughout the day.

Dental Problems Faced in Later Years
Sadly, off-colored teeth are but one effect of age behind our lips. The others include:

• Fragile teeth – with age, teeth become more brittle, leading to cracks, chips and shearing
• Worn down teeth – daily chewing, chomping and grinding wears away the enamel of the teeth, as well as the tooth structure
• Crooked teeth – as we age, we have more health problems that can affect the gum tissue. When the gums recede, teeth no longer hold their original positions
• Dingy teeth – hastened by the ingestion of certain liquids and tobacco smoke
• Darkened or yellow teeth – as we age the underlying tooth layer thickens causing this effect

Restoring Older Teeth
A number of new cosmetic dental procedures are being used to renew aged teeth. No matter what the years have created for you, cosmetic dentists can help you look your best, which can have a big impact upon your self-esteem. Some of those procedures to correct the imperfections that become more pronounced with age are:
• Porcelain veneers – wafer-thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth
• Teeth whitening – up to eight shades lighter with Zoom!2ฎ
• Tooth contouring – to reshape your teeth
• Dental crowns – to help broken teeth look more natural
• Dental & tooth bonding – to help repair teeth that have a minor chip or gap
• Dental implants – to replace missing teeth
• Dental bonding – to correct chip, cracked, crooked, unevenly spaced, stained or teeth non-responsive to teeth whitening, or are structurally damaged from tooth decay

How Whiter Teeth Make You Look Younger
Most everything yellows with age, but that doesn’t have to be the case with your smile. Teeth whitening can make you look years younger by:
• Brightening up your entire face
• Renewing lost confidence in your looks
