Americana Music

Americana Music is the traditional music of America. It is basically thought of as the early classical music of America but it actually had all the influences that gave rise to the Rock n Roll music.

Americana Music Association (AMA) defines it as "American roots music based on the traditions of country. While the musical model can be traced back to the Elvis Presley marriage of 'hillbilly music' and R&B that birthed rock 'n roll, Americana as a radio format developed during the 1990s as a reaction to the highly polished sound that defined the mainstream music of that decade. " To create interest and comfort among the listeners, AMA introduced the new format ‘Americana’.

Since after the format “Americana” came into use, AMA started to bring all the supporters of this music form to increase the viability of this music. Include Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, Alejandro Escovedo, Buddy and Julie Miller, Eilen Jewell, Ryan Adams etc are some of the most popular Americana Artists and singers.

The "non-profit" AMA runs the Americana radio chart. The first chart came out in January 20, 1995 created by Bleetstein, who was then the first Americana chart editor of Gavin magazine. While the top chart positions are often interpreted as a mark of artistic credibility, a review of SoundScan data shows no direct correspondence between Americana chart success and record sales.

Throughout the decade, the Americana Music Association (AMA) continues to hold an annual conference and festival in Nashville to discuss the evolution of Americana music and present awards to its members. Furthermore, to encourage the fans and promoters, the organization also sends out newsletter, conducts market research, produces radio airplay charts and updates on the latest Americana music related activities across the united states.

Most of the Americana Artists use Acoustic guitar to play the music but like the other music forms, this form has also urged people to try and use other rock music instruments including Piano, melodica, vibraphones etc (take Tift Merritt as an example)

Americana music is really worth of getting your attention. The Americana Music Association is run by people who care deeply about this form of music, about its influence and about maintaining the true spirit of traditional values and traditional music.
