American Pitbull Terriers are NOT monsters |
||||
The American Pit Bull Terrier is just a victim to the merciless media that are able to pump fear into the community. These dogs are not wild animals that break fences and kill little children, and often in media cases they are not even sure if these dogs are indeed pure bred American Pit Bull Terriers. The KYW news in Philadelphia is a perfect example of how this breed is treated as a victim. The story was of two Pit Bulls attacking a person, after calling the news station to find the breed of the dogs they told me that they were not sure of the breed and had no verification from the police station of the breed of the dogs. Yet, they continued the story still referring to the dog as an American Pit Bull Terrier with no proof at all. What makes that right??
The media is the direct cause of the now bleak future of this wonderful breed. The media is responsible of the outbreak of vigilantes that have heartlessly shot dead American Pit Bull Terriers. Take the story of Gage, a seven year old pure breed American Pit Bull Terrier. He had been let out for a morning run in his yard when he was shot dead by the neighbour. The neighbour had claimed there was a snake on his property and when going to shoot it, that Gage jumped over the fence, fearing for his precious life he shot the dog. The crime scene showed the dog being on the owners property, not the neighbours, and suspicious markings around the collar lead the owners to believe someone had attempted to pull Gage over the fence to prove the story. Gage was shot through the neck, collar blown off. The angle of the shot suggests the only point of entry would have been if the neighbour was on kneeling, pointing the gun through the fence and shooting Gage, when on all fours. Never heard this story before?? No surprise, this is one of many cases in which the media have not exposed internationally.
Another story with same circumstances occurred in California, in which an owner had purchased a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier, much to the displease of the community. In order to ease their pain, she purchased a high wire fence to contain her dog, over 2ft tall. She would visit the dog and often leave toys in there for enjoyment. One day, a member of the community had passed the enclosure and viewed the dog chewing on something small, but it was concealed, the person ran home got their shotgun and shot the dog. When examining the scene after the death, the dog had been chewing on a soft toy, not a small child as originally thought. The owner took the person to court, and lost. The jury believe he had every right to kill the dog as it could have been injuring a person and was therefore allowed to cruelty kill the dog, despite the fact of the dog not actually injuring anyone at all.
As you can see from the examples, these dogs are not monsters, theyre not vicious animals theyre dogs like any other. They are no different from your Labrador or Golden Retriever and they do not deserve to be stereotyped by stories that arent even verified. So please, I beg of every person that reads this article, do not believe what the media tell you, always doubt the story, because at the end of the day you have a brain and can make your own opinion, you dont need someone telling you what to think.
