The park was named after him as Jim Corbett national park in the year 1957. Located on foot hills of Nainital, this wonder of the world has captured the heart of millions across globe. It is one of the best destinations of jungle tracking because of the breath taking landscapes and amazing biodiversity.
This park was a tiger reserve till the year 1936 and is India’s first national park. The inauguration of project tiger was done in the year 1937 and at present the park is the abode of more than 130 tigers.
Corbett Park has an area of 520 sq km and is a valley by the river Ram Ganga. The river passes through it and there are many wetlands and streams that come in the park. You have got the Cury leaf and the hardwood Sal tress in the park and one is wonderstruck by this majestic beauty. You also have got the deciduous forests, streams and ravines in the park making it quite interesting for the environmentalist.
One of the interesting features of Jim Corbett national park is the long grasslands also called as chaurs. Thanks to Jim Corbett for being responsible for the configuration. He made it sure that the park had a wide terrain and this would become the natural habitat for a wildlife of variety. Some of the exotic wildlife in the park is the sambar, elephant, spotted deer, shy barking deer, hog deer, many birds and wild boar. You can also see tiger, langur monkeys, jungle cat, leopard, fishing cat, leopard cat and many other animals also.
The wildlife lovers stay at Dhikala as the preferred destination because of basic amenities in the area. You have the better chance of spotting animals here. It can be in the dawn time when you have a look across the river valley. When the land gets soft by the beautiful mist in the morning, you can see herds of elephants and deer drifting across wetlands and this is really an amazing experience. You can have a two to three hour elephant ride across the valley and if you are fortunate enough, you can see the deadly jungle cat known as tiger. During the drive of the morning you can see the crocodiles and the gharials that eat fish. Jim Corbett Park will provide you an amazing experience and these are golden moments of encounter with wild.
