Advanced DDS-4 DGD150PWW Tape Cartridge Designed By Sony |
||||
|
DGD150PWW is a high capacity DDS4 backup tape that is designed by Sony. Physical size of Sony DDS4 tape is much smaller than other tape formats but it offers greater capacity of 20 GB (un-compressed data). Sony uses ultra fine dual-layer media coating mechanism in its DDS-4 DGD150PWW backup tapes. |

Sony DGD150PWW has been designed to withstand work pressure and harsh conditions. These DDS-4 tapes provide superior data accuracy and consistent performance even after repeated use. This has been made possible with the introduction of Sony’s exclusive binder called high cross linkage, in short HCL. HCL binder strengthens the tape media and boosts its durability. Sony has developed another innovative mechanism called RDP which ensures smooth tape winding. In this new technique, the tape reel is sandwiched between the textured sheets. Cartridge lid of Sony DDS4 tape is made of robust plastic which protects it from mechanical shocks and accidental drops.
I am also mentioning the part numbers and names of other manufacturers of DDS-4 tape cartridges: Dell DDS4 tape (09W083), Imation DDS 4 backup tape (40963), HP DDS4 tape cartridge (C5718A), Maxell DDS4 backup tape (200028), Quantum DDS 4 data tapes (CDM40).
Sony DGD150PWW tape assures low torque. The torque increases along the tape’s diameter as the drive winds the tape onto the reel. Sony has engineered new advanced lower shell, lower sheet and DDS hubs to minimize the effect of torque in the fast rewind and forward search modes. The strong cartridge shell protects the inner tape media from potential deformations caused by accidental drops or external stress. Sony uses ultra fine dual-layer media coating mechanism in its DDS-4 DGD150PWW backup tapes. This dual-layer coating is also utilized by Sony in DDS-3 tape format. Dual layer of Sony DDS-4 tape comprises of a non-magnetic and an ultra fine magnetic layer. Ultra fine layer of Sony DGD150PWW data tape accelerates the output frequency thus resulting in efficient high density recording. Non-magnetic layer increases the tape’s durability and helps in stabilizing the tape movement during drive operations.
Tape media of Sony DDS4 is made up of ultra fine magnetic particles. It is much difficult to disperse small sized magnetic particles in the binder. Sony has devised a new high dispersion technique that ensures even dispersion of the ultra fine particles. Size of magnetic particles used in Sony DDS-4 and DDS3 tape cartridges are approx. 100nm (0.1µm). Smooth base film, increased track density, and small sized particles, all these features lead to long term durability and outstanding performance.
