A New E- commerce Mode

As e-commerce develops, a new kind of e-commerce developing mode is needed. The writer of this article courageously predict this new developing mode.

As information technology develops, e commerce is increasingly playing a more and more important role in commerce activities.

Early e-commerce site is really simple in that it is only a site on which products are presented. Goal of early e -commerce site is really simple: to show products on line and attract internet users (who are also potential buyers) to buy these products. Early e-commerce, in my opinion, is simply a combination of buying activities with internet technology. In other words, early e-commerce makes the first step in transferring business activity from actual world to the internet although this transferring is restricted merely to buying and supplying activity.

Comparing with present-day e commerce site, early e-commerce site is simple. However, it has its role in the development of e-business. Its significance lies in its first step in combing internet technology with commerce.

Later e-commerce site is mature. With multiple functions, usability of later e-commerce site has improved a lot. Generally speaking, designing mode of later e-commerce (here I restrict it to b2b sites) goes like that: the content of the site is divided mainly into two sections, namely the buyer and supplier section. It also has other additional or auxiliary content such as trade shows, company directory, industry news and so on. The whole site is like a tree, with the buyer and supplier section as the trunk from which branches spring and intertwine with each other. We can say that later e-commerce site has made considerable progress considering web function and web content. However, it is not so good regarding customers’ real needs. We know that users of e-commerce sites are practical- minded people. They browse one certain e-commerce site for finding suitable business partners with whom they can do business. Most current e- commerce sites do a good job in enriching web content but not do will in improving web usability. For some e -commerce sites, it is ironical when they try to gather as much information as they can only to find usability of the site is decreasing slowly. I have that kind of unpleasant experience browsing a e -commerce site, feeling dazzled and sometimes even lost amid huge amount of information. Besides, for most individual users, I do not think content like trade shows, industry news can be of any help.

The world is witnessing the individualization and deepening of business activities. Professional e- commerce users obviously are not satisfied with current b2b site’s function. What these professional users are pursuing is proficiency, individualization and high pertinence. A new e commerce developing mode is needed.

Such being the case, what can future e-commerce do to follow this trend, to meet users’ needs who are, as they engage in e-business more and more, becoming professional?

The answer should be buying action. We know that if there is no need to buy, there will be no commercial activity at all. Buying is the very core of all commercial activities. Buying action is the very center around which other business procedures take place. So if an e-commerce site can lay emphasize on buying information, it will seize a favorable location in following the development trend of modern e-commerce.

What the situation will be like if an e-commerce site presents and only presents detailed buying information such as quality, quotation demand, terms of payment, delivery date and so on? We can foresee it. Since this kind of site only presents buying information, it will attract a lot of suppliers to check those information. That means supplier does not need to spend too much time before he can find his desired business opportunity. Suppliers can come to actual business opportunity directly. For buyer, buyer does not need to bother himself in finding his suitable supplier. Simply releasing his buying information on a site, the rest job will be finished.

I can not predict what a future e-commerce site will look like. But what I can make sure is that a new kind a b2b mode is emerging and the central concept of this new b2b mode will be nothing but emphasize on buying information.
