I personally think that when you choose to optimize a website, you must begin with the domain name. If your web content is about cars you should choose something like car-something.com and so on.
The second step is to add specific keywords in the META tags. In our example, about cars you should add keywords like "car", "wheel", "tires", etc.
Again you should enter in the META tags a good description in which you should use some keywords. For example: "The biggest on-line store for car parts"
Well at this time you should take your time and build an interesting content, based on the main subject (in our case, cars). Also you should update this content often.
Now google, msn, yahoo, and other search engines will do their job and index you website. You can help them by making a sitemap and build a backlink network (web directory, blogs, etc)
