Situated a short distance from the town centre is the ever imposing Old Trafford Football Ground where when Manchester United are playing in the Premier League the focus of 75,000 football fans attention is drawn. Now if they were all from Manchester then there would not be a problem with availability of hotel rooms and their price but as they are not and they pile in from London, Ireland and abroad. This means hotels can double their price and still sell out. The football season runs from August to May each year and our advice if your Manchester stag party or Manchester hen weekend falls within the middle of that is check the fixture list as if you arrange it on a weekend where they aren’t playing at home availability will be more extensive and rooms will be cheaper.
Certain firms will also claim that they have hotel rooms this weekend in the city centre and if they do be very careful as they will probably be at least a five minute taxi ride from where you need to be so always ask for their location before you confirm the booking.
The other thing to be aware of and this can be year round is hotel availability on nights where there is a large concert or event on at the MEN Arena or sports stadia dotted around the city. Recent events that have caused a hotel room shortage have been Take That’s sold out gigs at Old Trafford Cricket ground and Peter Kay’s sold out tour at the MEN Arena. This is sort of event doesn’t cause the problems of a Manchester United home fixture but they are worth keeping an eye on. The MEN arena events sell out the hotels in the north of the city centre closest to the arena and still leaves availability in the southern city centre hotels.
The last and probably the most surprising event annually in Manchester to be aware of is the Labour Party Conference where for a week in September from the 25th onwards hotels will simply run blackout periods and not allow booking as they can again sell out their room stock at a much higher price.
