Hiring a mobile discotheque these days is not like it used to be. With the advances in technology and competition, you are more likely hiring very many different services in one.

Before they even get to play there first record, they must set up the gear, do a risk assessment to make sure it meets with health and safety regulations for both there own and the companies insurance guidelines. Your mobile DJ will often be insured for million pounds in liability insurance to make sure your covered in the event of an accident.

But its not just the setting up at the function room. There record collection has often take year to collect and maintain, and they must keep on top of current releases and musical trends. Transport is another factor. The mobile disco equipment often costs thousands of pounds and transporting it safely is critical. The equipment is no longer just a couple of decks and a microphone, but will often include lighting and smoke effects, amps, speakers and a whole other range of equipment that needs to be constantly checked and rechecked.

The role of the Mobile DJ has also gone under a significant change. They often have interchangeable roles such a MC, lighting and audio specialists, party planner, interactive hosts and a range of other functions. All done while they keep a constant watch on there equipment. (For insurance purposes they are not allowed to leave there equipment throughout the event). A good mobile DJ also has to be able to be a mind reader and have good empathy. A lot of the reason behind a good event is because the needs and requirements of the guests have been taken on board, without them actually having to say what they are. Of course a certain amount of communication between the host and mobile DJ is vital. Knowing what sort of event is being planned is vital. If its celebrating an eighth birthday you hardly want to eurodance tracks or hip hop all night. Matching the volume, the tracks, and the right amount of involvement is vital to a parties success.
