Thanks to recent advancements in research and development pertaining to hair restoration techniques, professionals in the field of hair loss treatment are now equipped to offer a variety of scientific solutions towards facilitation of medical hair restoration.

What are the options available for hair restoration in the market? The hairpiece or toupee is expensive although it does offer a quick and painless, yet embarrassing solution. We have all witnessed instances where a sudden gush of wind has led to the dismantling of a wig, much to the shame of its owner.

All other techniques of hair restoration are based on medical or surgical hair grafting methods. Many hair replacement clinics in New York specialize in offering expert hair restoration solutions at affordable rates.

In medical hair restoration, often, some drugs are administered for more suitable results. Minoxidil and Finasteride-based drugs are cheap and help in slowing down hair loss of non-grafted hair follicles.

Minoxidil is applied externally to the scalp. The drug is found to be effective in slowing down hair loss. This is the cheapest option available in the market currently. However, the drug needs to be applied daily and indefinitely. Finasteride or Propecia, a prescription pill, blocks type 1, 5-Alpha Reductase and has proved to be the most effective in controlling further hair loss and promoting re-growth of hair. Finasteride is slightly expensive.

Standard punch grafts, laser grafting, and scalp reduction surgery once popular techniques are now outmoded. The newest techniques of Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are among the most sophisticated and successful in all of cosmetic surgery.

FUT involves microscopic dissection of donor pieces from an excised portion of the scalp. While FUE is less invasive than FUT, it is typically twice the cost. FUE has a lower ultimate yield of follicular units than FUT. Nevertheless, it is often claimed that FUE leaves no scars whereas FUT leaves behind a thin scar in the donor area.
