1. Tested color scheme palette.
One of the most ignored but crucial things to prepare for a brochure design is the color scheme palette. This is basically the palette of 2-3 colors and smaller lighting variations of those that should make up the whole color scheme. It is important to have this so that all the font colors, back ground colors and image filters are specifically made to match and complement each other. There are special color-matcher software out there that you can use to quickly calculate the best colors for a selected base color. So use these if you cannot decide the color scheme palette yourself.
2. Peer reviewed and tested marketing content.
Next, you will need of course content. For your color brochures, it is important that you prepare a peer reviewed and tested marketing content so that you are sure you are mass producing the proper content that will appeal and interest readers. Make sure that you do not ONLY check for spelling and grammar errors. Make sure that you also test them in sample audiences to determine what other things might be wrong with the content.
3. Full color photographs.
Of course, it is important to go full color these days since people expect that from their custom brochure pictures. So make sure that you only acquire brochure images that are in full color from digital color cameras. Also, try to get the ones that are rendered in very high resolutions which are important in all types of printing. Images must be at least 300 dpi or higher for them to look very clean and sharp for brochure printing.
4. Additional clip-arts, graphics and borders.
You might also probably need some additional clip-arts, graphics and even graphic borders to supplement your brochure designs. These additional details will typically help you communicate your message more powerfully. Again try to get full color high resolution graphics if possible since this is the best for brochure printing.
5. Background image.
You will also need a good background for your color brochures. A simple color background is the most common, but sometimes it is best to add a color gradient or even texture in the brochure background to make it interesting. For the best impact, you might even want to use a light watermark type effect on the cover of the color brochures to make them look more authoritative.
6. Contemporary font styles.
It is best to prepare some of the newest fonts for your brochure printing to make them look more acceptable and even stylish when deployed among other rivals. Get something that is simple but still artistic. Sans serif fonts are best for the headlines itself while serif fonts are good for the brochure text body.
7. Brochure templates with fold guides.
Finally, to make a good design for brochure printing, you will need some brochure templates. Make sure that you use brochure templates that your brochure printing company can easily process and print in their printing machines. Of course keep in mind that these templates are set for front and back with additional leeway for brochure folds.
So those are the things that you need to prepare for a brochure design. Make sure you have all these before you start.
