The 4 C’s of diamonds have been developed to best describe them; they are color, cut, clarity and carat. The cut of the this stone describes how it has been shaped and polished, as well as the quality of the workmanship. It is an art of creating a quality from a rough stone.

Diamond Cuts: Its different cuts available are Round Brilliant, Modified Brilliant, Step cuts, Mixed cuts, and Rose cuts. As far as its color is concerned, this purest stone is perfectly transparent and has no color; however it’s impossible to find such a stone because of the chemical impurities and structural defects.

Diamonds Color: Which are as close to being colorless are given a very high value; however there is an exception in the case of pink and blue diamonds which are called fancy color diamonds. The white diamond comes at a cheaper rate as compared to intense pink or blue diamonds because yellow hues can be easily detected.

Carat Weight: The carat weight is the measure of the mass of the diamond; one carat equals 200 milligrams. Those which are less than one carat, the point unit is used which equals to one hundredth of a carat; higher the carat weight, the more precious and costly it is.

Diamonds Clarity: The clarity of the diamond is the measure of its defects which are called inclusions. Crystals of a foreign material or another diamond crystal or structural imperfections such as tiny cracks are the internal defects known as Inclusions and surface defects are known as Blemishes. The factors that affect the diamond clarity are number, size, color, relative location, orientation, and visibility of inclusions; and the grade for the clarity is assigned as per the overall appearance of the diamond under a 10x magnification.

The grades range from internally flawless – where the diamonds don’t have any kind of inclusions or blemishes; to Imperfect 3 – where the diamonds have large and heavy inclusions and blemishes that are even visible to the naked eye.
