Your big day is suddenly sneaking up on you and more issues are needing your attention. It is time to start evaluating your move needs and start making the necessary arrangements related to your change of address, packing, and moving.

Your new address
Now is a good time to make a list of everyone you wish to notify in regards to your move and new address. Send a letter or email to your friends and family, and be sure to mention your arrival date at the new location.

You should notify the following businesses and agencies with your new contact information: telephone, trash, cable/satellite network, water, power, ISP (Internet Service Provider), insurance company, newspaper and magazine subscription, banks and financial institutions, health providers, IRS, and DMV. Check online to see what the local requirements are for a new driver's license, I.D. card, and car registration in your destination state.

It’s also important to make arrangements with the service providers at your new location as well. Try to set the deactivation date to one day after departure and activation date to one day before your arrival.

Time for packing
To save on the cost of your move, the best thing to do is to pack yourself. If you don’t feel comfortable packing certain breakable items like glassware, your mover can take care of this professionally. When doing so, make sure that all of the packing materials, like boxes, shrink wrap, bubble wrap, tape, padding paper, etc., are ready. This is also a very good time to pack things that you don't use often, for example the unused wardrobe, or all those items up in the attic and garage.

Decide what items you will not transport. After that, separate items that you will move yourself from the items that will be moved by your long distance movers. Remember, organization prior to the move day is very important.

By the way, if you have children, packing is the perfect opportunity to get them more involved in the moving process. Give them non-breakable items like pillows and sheets to put in boxes, or have them make colorful labels to help you with sorting everything out on the other end. Supervision is, of course, important in this process.
