Are you a renter?
As a renter you need to notify the landlord that you are moving. Most states require a minimum 30-day written notice as to avoid any late payments.
Confirm moving details
Most moving companies book moves for three to four weeks in advance, so if you haven’t done so yet, it’s time to finalize all the details with your moving company. It’s even more important if you would like to move on a weekend.
Confirm your move date and notify your mover if there are any date changes required. You should not delay when setting dates as they may be booked if you wait.
If you change any of the packing or unpacking plans be sure to notify your mover so they can make the necessary arrangements. As an example, you may have planned to do all the packing but you realized that you couldn’t finish the task yourself.
Notify your mover if you make any changes to your inventory list, and always remember that any changes in the list could change the final price. Unusual and oversized items such as a piano or a large screen TV should be mentioned to your estimator.
If you plan to move your vehicle you must notify your mover to make proper arrangements as it may land on a different day. Many moving companies use a sub-contractor to transport vehicles so arrangements will need to be done with them as well.
Do not transport combustible or flammable items
Your moving company is forbidden to transport, according to federal laws and regulations, dangerous and flammable items and liquids like fireworks, cleaning fluids, matches, acids, chemistry sets, aerosol cans, ammunition, and poisons.
Lawn mowers and other machinery should be drained of fuel. Propane tanks, along with partly used cans of oil, thinner, bleach, and other substances that may be flammable, must be discarded.
Pet transportation
To ensure proper up to date health certificates and rabies inoculations take your pets to your veterinarian, and some states may require these documents.
